This review summarizes the current state-of-the-art and practice of linear elastic seismic analysis of RC structures for codified seismic design and of nonlinear analysis for research purposes. For elastic analysis, the concepts and mechanics of modal dynamic analysis are described, with emphasis on the multimodal response spectrum method and on the combination of modal responses for one-dimensional or multidimensional internal forces. The two most common nonlinear dynamic solution schemes are described and member-type hysteretic models are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on the general 3D Fibre models and on simple 1D models, of the distributed and lumped inelasticity types.
