Hybrid testing at Strulab

Preparations for a geographically distributed test are underway within EXCHANGE-SSI. The multispan bridge structure is partitioned in sub-structures and a software platform (UI-Simcor) is used to solve the equations of motion and coordinate the test sending displacement commands to the substructures (“modules”). Reaction forces at interface nodes are either determined analytically (Opensees, Abacus, Zeus, etc.) or – as in this case – experimentally.  UI-Simcor is developed by the NEES@Illinois MUST-SIM facility and the Mid-America Earthquake Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  It is open-source, royalty-free software.  The communication between SIMCOR and the testing control system is facilitated by either a combination of software (NICON- Network Interface for Controllers) and hardware (NI-cDAQ), or via software only (StrulabAPI in Matlab).
